Fresh from its debut at the London Olympics, Ondatrópica brings together stars of legendary Discos Fuentes cumbia and salsa albums alongside a new generation of tropicalistas. Co-helmed by bassist Mario Galeano (leader of Bogotá cumbia futurists Frente Cumbiero) and Colombia-based DJ Quantic (a.k.a. Will Holland) on guitar and accordion, this 12-member super session features composer Alfredito Linares (piano), singer Markitos Mikolta, Grupo Niche cofounder Wilson Viveros (timbales), Michi Sarmiento (clarinet), Pedro Beltrán (flute), and Jorge Gavira, arguably Colombia’s finest trumpeter.
